MSTX: How did you get your start on the Texas/Red Dirt scene?

I've been working very hard through tedious training and theory since I was 14 years old. I chose to be in homeschool in order to train full time and pursue my music career. At the age of 16, I was able to go to Nashville, TN to record my first album, my EP Falling Straight Up. I then started performing at music venues all over the state of Texas, and have been ever since. At age 17, God blessed me with this songwriting gift- giving me all of these great Texas Country songs to write! The first is my new single, which I co-wrote and released, Never Trouble Trouble, available on iTunes. I'm so excited to record the rest of my songs and tear up the Scene with them! We are asking everyone to request Tori Martin music on our Texas Radio Stations!

MSTX: How old were you when you knew you wanted to sing for a living?

I have been singing from birth, I specifically remember being in second grade and being asked what I wanted to be when I grew up by the teacher in class. I immediately responded, "I wanna be a famous singer!" Of course, she tried to convince me to be a teacher, doctor, or vet- but I assured her I was going to be a famous singer.

MSTX: Who are your musical influences?

Some of my greatest musical influences are Dolly Parton, Etta James, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Whitney Houston, George Strait, Christina Aguilera, Ray Charles and many more- I am just so in love with music that I've listened to it all and find something great and something to learn from all genres.

MSTX: If you had the chance to collaborate with an artist, who would it be and why?

Since Elvis isn't here.... I would certainly love to collaborate with George Strait! I love his work, his voice, his tone, and mostly just the person that he is. I respect him greatly and look up to him so very much. He is such an inspiration as a person and musically to me!

MSTX: Is there anything you can't live without on the road?

Water-hydration is key for staying healthy, Lay's Potato Chips, cupcakes-oh, I love cupcakes and we look for them everywhere we go, and prayer, always lots of prayer!

MSTX: What would we be surprised to find playing on your MP3 player?

Probably Ron Pope. He's totally Indie and out of my genre but he has wicked pipes, killer lyrics, and awesome arrangements!

MSTX: What do you like to do in your spare time?

I don't have a whole lot of spare time, my focus is 110% is on music and growing as an artist. On my day off, Sunday, you'll find me serving at my church, staying grounded spiritually in the Lord, with those I love. The time I have I spend with my large family, laughing like there is no tomorrow!

MSTX:  What can we expect from you in the upcoming year 2013?

With lots of hard work, support from fans, family, and friends, faith, and prayers- I'm working on my originals for a new album. I will continue performing in the DFW and surrounding area, hope to be signed, and on tour in 2013- if not sooner!

All of that will not happen without people like you, who take the time to hear the new artists, and share us with everyone. I thank you, Music Scene Texas, for your support, it means everything in the world to me.

God Bless-
